by | Aug 7, 2023 | Act CRM Software Fundamentals

Hi ladies and gentlemen, Tony Holowitz here. On the somewhat ironic date of April Fool’s Day, April 1st, 2022, some of my clients are encountering a troublesome issue. They’re having a hard time opening Act, receiving an error message that they cannot connect. In this blog post, I’ll guide you through the steps to resolve this problem.

1. The Problem: Unable to Authenticate

The issue begins with an inability to open Act, and an error message appears, saying users cannot connect. This can be particularly frustrating for Act users who depend on it for daily operations.

2. The Solution: Connecting the Act Outlook Add-In

The solution to this problem involves a series of steps that connect the Act Outlook Add-in. Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolving the issue:

Step 1: Open Microsoft Outlook
  • Why? There’s a good chance you have Act connected to Outlook.
Step 2: Navigate to Options
  • Click on “File.”
  • When the “Account Information” box opens, go down to “Options.”
Step 3: Access the Add-ins
  • A new box will pop up.
  • Click on “Add-ins.”
  • Observe the Act Outlook Add-in.
Step 4: Connect the Add-in
  • Come down to where it says “COM Add-ins.”
  • Click on “Go.”
  • Ensure the add-in is connected.
  • Click “OK.”
Step 5: Confirm the Connection
  • Right up top, you should see “Act.”
  • Click on it and observe settings for Act to confirm it took.
Step 6: Reopen Act
  • Go back and try to open Act.

Here’s a table summarizing the steps:

Step Action
1 Open Microsoft Outlook
2 Navigate to Options
3 Access the Add-ins
4 Connect the Add-in
5 Confirm the Connection
6 Reopen Act

3. Conclusion

This simple process should resolve the problem and allow you to access Act again. If you follow these instructions and still encounter difficulties, don’t hesitate to reach out for further assistance.

Ladies and gentlemen, I hope this guide helps you get back on track with Act. My name is Tony Holowitz, and I thank you very much. Have a great day!
