by | Aug 7, 2023 | Act CRM Software Fundamentals

Hi, ladies and gentlemen! Tony Holowitz here, and in this tutorial, we are going to explore how to upload an Act backup file to your Act CRM SAS database. This is especially useful for existing Act users with software installed on desktops and wanting to move their data to the cloud.

Uploading Your Act Backup File: A Step-by-Step Guide

1. Accessing the Welcome Screen

Once you have your SAS account open on the screen, you’ll need to follow these steps:

  • Click on “Welcome”: This takes you to the welcome screen.
  • Select the Option to Upload: The welcome screen will have an option that allows you to start the process of uploading your data.

2. Filling Out the Upload Form

After clicking on “Upload,” you will be directed to a form that needs to be filled out:

  • Username: Type in your username.
  • Password: If you have a password, enter it (ensure you know this information in advance).
  • Email Address: Enter the email address used to set up the account, and you can also put in an additional one to make sure you get informed when the data is ready.

3. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues:

  • Check Original Email: If the upload option is not available, you might have to refer to the original email sent when you set up the trial. There might be a link that directs you on how to upload your Act data.

4. Selecting the Backup File

  • Upload Options: You have the option to upload an Act database backup or a zip file. You can also upload a spreadsheet, but due to variations in setup, it’s best to get assistance with this.
  • Navigate and Select Zip File: Locate the zip file or backup file you wish to upload. In this case, I had a file named “Act_Ice_Cream” on my desktop.

5. Completing the Upload

  • Wait for the Upload: This might take some time depending on the file size.
  • Click “Complete Upload”: Once you see the green checkbox, click on this button to finish the process.
  • Your Data is Intact: The import is complete, and your data remains intact.

Timing Considerations

  • Typical Duration: Generally, within about an hour, the database will be live.

Conclusion

Uploading an Act backup file to the Act Premium Cloud or Act CRM Classic is a straightforward process, but it is important to follow each step carefully. If you’ve already created a backup file as shown in my previous tutorial, then these instructions will guide you in transferring that data to the cloud.
